Equipment

At the OSU Havener Eye Institute, we have the most advanced equipment for LASIK eye surgery. We have the ability to do both "All-Laser" LASIK with the IntraLase laser, or traditional LASIK with the microkeratome.

The IntraLase laser is a computer-guided laser that creates a precise, thin corneal flap. The advantage of the IntraLase is that the flaps are much thinner than those with the microkeratome. Patients who previously were told their corneas were too thin for LASIK may now be better suited for the treatment. The use of the IntraLase has also lowered the rate of flap complications.
In addition, we utilize the wavefront aberrometer for CustomCornea LASIK. Traditional LASIK involved treating patients based solely on their refractive error (glasses prescription). Now with the wavefront technology we are able to treat both refractive error and other imperfections in your vision that are unique to your eye individually. It is estimated that 90% of vision problems are due to your refractive error while 10% is due to higher order aberrations. Higher order aberrations were not addressed with traditional LASIK but ARE now addressed with CustomCornea LASIK. Recent studies indicate that with CustomCornea LASIK patients are more likely to achieve 20/20 vision.
