Our retina specialists have received special training in conditions which involve the vitreous body and retina. The vitreous is a clear gel which fills the space between the front and back of the eye and gives it shape (in the same way that air fills a ballon). The retina is the light sensitive area on the inner back of the eye that interprets light into electrical signals for the brain. Our retina specialists treat a wide range of eye conditions including: age-related macular degeneration (AMD), flashes and floaters, diabetic retinopathy (DME), retinal tears, retinoblastoma, retinal detachment, retinitis pigmentosa, and cancers of the eye. They may treat a patient who has experienced severe eye trauma, with the goal of addressing the trauma and repairing or preventing damage to the eye. They may also be consulted in the case of a patient dealing with a hereditary disease of the eye. |
