Surgical Simulator

We take great pride in our residency program and our commitment to train the best ophthalmologists and surgeons of tomorrow.  Providing the highest quality resident education has always been a tenet of our department and we now have a wonderful opportunity to continue this tradition.

Computerized surgical simulators are being used in residency training programs from general surgery to obstetrics and gynecology to internal medicine and pediatric procedures.  These simulations allow residents to become familiar with the principles behind the procedures they will be performing and help develop the motor skills required to perform them.  Computer training devices are the future of medical education and many hospitals now have dedicated space and technology to allow this aspect of medical training.

The EYESI® Surgical Simulator provides both cataract and vitreoretinal surgery simulations in a three-dimensional virtual environment.  This device has been tested many times by our faculty and we have found the device to provide a very convincing surgical simulation – something we would like our residents to be able to experience before, during, and after their time in the real operating room.  Aside from developing and refining their surgical skills, this simulator allows trainees to encounter and deal with various types of pathologies and surgical complications.  All of this is done with no risk to patients.

As cataract surgery continues to become a more and more demanding procedure with an emphasis on results, we ask for your help in continuing our tradition of excellence in training with the latest technology and giving patients the best possible results.

Generous donations have already been made toward the purchase of this simulator for our residents.  This fabulous piece of technology is valued at $176,000.  Please consider making a donation for the EYESI® Surgical Simulator and keeping our program at the forefront of surgical resident training and providing the highest quality surgeons and ophthalmologists in the country.
