The Havener Eye Institute is excited to welcome Michael Drake, MD as the new President of The Ohio State University. Dr. Drake joins us from the University of California, Irvine where he served as Chancellor.
“He is a passionate advocate for higher education, diversity and inclusion,” said Robert Schottenstein, Chairman of the Ohio State Board of Trustees. “[He] has demonstrated a commitment to the ideals that are core to a modern land-grant institution.”
Before becoming UC Irvine’s Chancellor, Dr. Drake served as both the vice president for health affairs for the University of California system and as a Professor of Ophthalmology specializing in Glaucoma. While serving as VP for Health Affairs, he was responsible for the academic program policy of the University of California’s 15 health science schools. He has received numerous honors and awards for teaching, public service and groundbreaking research.
Dr. Drake received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his medical degree from UC San Francisco. He completed his ophthalmology residency at UCSF and his glaucoma fellowship at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Drake will take office on June 30, 2014 as the 15th OSU President.
