Our mission is to prevent and cure blinding eye disease and improve the quality of vision through clinical care, research, and education.

The Havener Eye Institute, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science prides itself in providing state-of-the-art patient care, education and research. The Institute is a center within the nationally recognized Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University. We offer a comprehensive array of services to patients and educational and research opportunities to physicians who are both in training and in practice.

Patient Care

Our department offers patients the latest examination and diagnostic techniques, and medical and surgical for such major diseases as glaucoma, diabetic eye diseases, retinal detachments, macular degeneration, cataracts, as well as the latest techniques in refractive surgery.

Education & Training

The Department’s three-year residency program and fellowship programs are among the most competitive in the country. They offer numerous clinical, surgical, research and teaching opportunities in the areas of cornea and external disease, refractive surgery, vitreoretinal disease, and neuro-ophthalmology/orbital disease.

Research Efforts

Our faculty are involved in a number of multi-center clinical trials funded by the National Eye Institute and have contributed to medicine's base of knowledge of ocular diseases through efforts aimed at new treatments for the prevention and treatment of blinding disorders.
