Morning Lecture Series
The morning lecture series, presented by senior faculty members, make up the didactic part of the ophthalmology residency program. The topics are developed with resident input at the beginning of each academic year. The lectures are designed to augment daily reading assignments. Upon completion of the three-year curriculum, each resident will have read and attended supplemental lectures based on the latest major ophthalmic textbooks. These texts will become a part of each resident's personal libraries.
Grand Rounds
Weekly Grand Rounds are held on Thursday mornings in the Magnuson Conference Room. Community ophthalmologists, onsite faculty, and residents are present to examine patients referred to Grand Rounds with diagnostic or management problems. Residents are responsible for patient workups and case presentations. These discussions offer residents an opportunity to talk one-on-one with faculty and community physicians. A recent addition to Grand Rounds is subspecialty Grand Rounds, in which presentations on the following subspecialty services are made: glaucoma, retina and vitreous, anterior segment, orbit and oculoplastics, refraction and optics, neuro-ophthalmology, pathology, and uveitis. These programs are well-attended by community ophthalmologists.
Conferences
Weekly patient management conferences take place after each Grand Rounds, and cover fluorescein angiography, glaucoma, anterior segment, ocular immunology and retinal diseases. These conferences are presented in an informal setting over lunch by senior faculty members and emphasize an open discussion with resident participation.
Monthly journal clubs, wet labs and pediatric ophthalmology conferences are also regularly held.
